Current Role & Organisation: Director & Chartered Certified Accountant, Spurling Cannon Ltd
About
Professional Background:
I am a Chartered Certified Accountant and Director at Spurling Cannon Ltd, a well-established accountancy firm in Kent. I have many years of experience supporting start-ups, growing enterprises, and established organisations, and I take pride in building long-term relationships with my clients. I act for businesses across a wide range of sectors, with a strong focus on property, including landlords, developers, and construction firms, as well as professional services such as architects, consultants, and solicitors. I also work closely with several charities, providing financial guidance and governance support tailored to the not-for-profit sector. My approach is centered on helping organisations of all sizes achieve sustainable growth and resilience through practical advice and sound financial management.
Connection to Neurodiversity:
As the father of two neurodivergent children diagnosed during their teenage years, I am deeply committed to advancing equality of opportunity and championing the strengths of neurodivergent individuals. My personal experiences have given me valuable insight into the challenges faced by neurodivergent people, and they inspire my dedication to creating environments where unique perspectives are recognised, supported, and celebrated.
Board/Trustee Role at NiB:
I serve as Treasurer and Trustee of Neurodiversity in Business. In this role, I help ensure the organisation’s financial stability and contribute to its strategic direction. I am passionate about using my professional expertise to strengthen NiB’s governance and operations so it can continue its vital work championing neurodivergent inclusion across workplaces.
Personal Interests (optional):
I have lived in South East Kent all my life and am passionate about supporting my local community. I am married with two children and have been actively involved with the Scouting movement for many years, now serving as Deputy Lead Volunteer and Trustee of Birchington Scouts, as well as Treasurer/Trustee for the local District Scouts. I also enjoy staying active: I take part in parkrun every week and regularly challenge myself with other running events.
