At Neurodiversity in Business, we truly believe that neurodivergent individuals bring incredible strengths and unique perspectives to any workplace. We are wholeheartedly committed to helping create supportive and inclusive environments where every neurodivergent staff member can flourish and reach their full potential.

Understanding Your Needs & Rights
Deciding whether to share your neurodiversity with your employer is a deeply personal choice. However, many find that disclosing can be helpful. It often opens doors to getting the right adjustments and helps your managers and colleagues understand you better.
It’s important to know that most neurodivergent conditions are recognised as protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. This means employers have a legal duty to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to ensure neurodivergent employees are not at a disadvantage.
We understand that you might not always know exactly what accommodations you need, especially if you’ve received a late diagnosis. We aim to help you explore what works best for you, creating an environment where you feel safe to discover different working aids and environments.
Finding the Right Adjustments
We encourage you to start by thinking about what you find difficult at work. Then, brainstorm ideas for solutions, ideally working together with your manager.
Requesting an occupational health assessment can be a useful step. This can provide tailored recommendations for adjustments. Crucially, you have the right to see the report and ask for any changes before it’s sent to your manager. If your employer can’t accommodate a specific adjustment you’ve asked for, there should always be a conversation about finding suitable alternatives.

Access to Work Scheme
The government’s Access to Work programme offers fantastic support. It provides grants, equipment, and practical help to assist disabled people and those with health conditions – including neurodivergent individuals – to stay in employment. This scheme can even fund assessments for reasonable adjustments, making it easier to get the support you need.
